Today students will continue working collaboratively on their solar cookers. They have some amazing ideas! We won't be testing cookers today (because no sun!).
In reading, we have our second book club discussion today. Students are prepared to discuss the assigned chapters and their corresponding jot. They will also have an opportunity to go to the library for book selection today. It is going to be a busy Tuesday! Enjoy!

Solar Cookers are A GO! We are beyond excited to have launched this long term project this week. Students are pushing themselves everyday in science and we are so proud of them! If you would like to come in at any point to see the solar cookers in action, feel free to send me an email. :)
This morning I am out for Reading professional development, but students will begin planning their solar cookers! We are so excited about this project and can't wait to see what they come up with. Have a wonderful Monday!
Today in science we will explore the human eye and how light impacts it even more. We will also learn more about translucent, transparent, and opaque objects.
In reading we are working on our long writing assessment. I know that everyone will try their best and be successful! Have a great weekend! The past two days we have been lucky enough to have the Mansfield Fire Department here with us for Fire Prevention week! The students not only got a hands on experience with the fire house, but learned about the science behind fires and fire safety.
In reading we are continuing reading Home of the Brave and practicing our Reader's Workshop skills. Students should be reading their book club book in preparation for their discussions on Tuesdays. It has been a fun and exciting week!
This week in science we started our Light Unit. We used the arrow and water "trick" as our phenomena and students explored it further each day throughout the week. In reading, students are working hard to write meaningful jots about their reading. They also got their first book club book! Meetings are every Tuesday during class. During skills students started Voice and Choice (a new program some fifth grade teachers are piloting). On Tuesday they brainstormed about things they are passionate about and formulated a list of questions about that topic. On Wednesday they began to dive in and figure out which questions mattered most to them and were worthy of being explored deeper. I hope to see some of you tomorrow as we wrap up Middle School Education Week. Thanks!! Miss Corlett I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing (or adventurous) weekend!
This week in Science we are going to be starting our Fire Prevention Posters for the school wide and state wide contest! We will be talking about ways to stay safe and prevent fires while working hard to create beautiful posters! In reading this week we are talking about character traits and emotions. We will not be having our normal long writes due (because of the short week). Students are still expected to be reading a minimum of 20 minutes each night and responding to their reading. Why do readers need to respond? As a reading teacher, this is the only way I can help your child grow. If students aren't writing about their reading, I have no way of telling what they are comprehending and where to instruct them next. PLEASE encourage your child to write about their reading as often as possible. Thank you for helping me make your child the best possible reader! Miss Corlett It's been a fun and exciting week! On Wednesday we were in the lab for hearing and vision testing. Yesterday we played review games and today we took our Energy Test. Enjoy your long weekend!
Readers, please continue to read and respond to reading over the long weekend. Love, Miss Corlett Today in science, we used Hershey kisses to prove that our bodies produce energy! Miss Corlett will be out for Professional Development in the morning (Tuesday) so students will work on a Google Classroom assignment about Healthy Eating.
In reading, we dug a little deeper with our long writes and talked about the expectations we have set for fifth grade readers. Students should be reading at least 20 minutes per night, jotting on their sticky notes while reading, AND completing their quick write homework every night. This is the only way we can become stronger readers! |
Welcome!Hi there! I'm so glad that you're here. I'm Miss Corlett and I will be using this blog to post important information for my readers and scientists! |
